Nene Overland has been building specialist vehicles with either dropsides, tipping or box bodies for many years.

We can work closely with our customers to achieve the right spec that will work well with the vehicle. Mostly we supply the complete package so always have 110-130 Defender chassis – double cabs in stock ready for conversion. We have also converted many Japanese Pick-ups, mostly Single, King or Double Cab Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota or Ford. Due to their lighter build remember that they will not carry the weight like the Defenders will. Generally a 130 or 110 chassis cab will weigh approximately 2 tonnes and have a gross vehicle weight of between 3 and 3.5 tonnes. The 110 Defender may be 3050kg, it can be uprated to 3500kg as with most 130 Defenders. Either 300 TDI models or TD5 are very popular depending on budget. We continue to supply new vehicles as well as used. A large percentage of customers for this vehicle tend to be tree surgeons who want higher sides and storage boxes to accommodate their equipment. Single dropside bodies suit farmers, builders, landscapers and all manner of other requirements find dimensions will always be agreed with the customer. Generally, Andrew Harrison-Smith (Tel: 01733 380687 or Mobile: 07850 156655) will deal with all specialist vehicle requirements such as tippers and dropsiders.

For those who want higher sides we can set the height either just above the cab height or go high enough to clear a rod rack that we may fit on the truck cab roof still allowing you to lay ladders etc over the top of the tipping body cab and roof rack. We often fit a removable ladder bar on top of the rear of the tipping body. Spare wheels are either bonnet mounted or mounted on one side of the headboard.

We can manufacture chip flaps to deflect wood chip into the body if required. Generally most customers don’t have a window in the headboard if they are having high sides. Top and bottom swinging tailgates can be fitted or just a bottom tailgate if required. We make all tailgates corner posts and tailgates removable to create either flat bed single or double dropside to give even more versatility.

Heavy-duty springs with a second helps rear spring are normally added to cope with the extra weight. Winches, aluminium tread plates, sill protectors and wing tops are often fitted. Our unique design of side lockers are very popular especially with 110s where there is no room between cab and rear wheel to mount storage’s lockers. We can create a box that runs the length of the lower dropside on the near side, access is via opening the dropside. Customers will fit straps and inner protection if they are to store expensive chain saws etc.
